Deputy Terminated & Denied Workers Comp After Brain Injury

Jaycob Hultberg, a jail deputy at Harvey County, Kansas, was terminated from his job after sustaining a traumatic brain injury. Hultberg was assisting patients in the county jail when he fell, resulting in the injury.

He was denied workers compensation and shortly after he was fired from his job by the county. Soon his insurance benefits will be canceled and he will no longer be able to continue treatment for his traumatic brain injury.

This is a classic example of worker’s compensation looking after the employer and not the employee. A traumatic brain injury settlement can be costly for a company, as payments can range into the millions. Unfortunately, these types of cases are all too common.

Hultberg may be able to pursue a wrongful termination lawsuit as well as appeal the worker’s compensation decision.
