Ohio Workers Comp Opens up Its Return-to-Work Plan

Back in July, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation expanded a transitional work program that was originally only available to companies that met specific criteria. This new plan will send injured employees back to work under certain restrictions set forth by their employer and a third party company.

Companies that participate in the program will be awarded bonuses by the Ohio BWC. Now, in order to qualify, businesses only need to remain in good standing with the bureau.

On one hand, this program will benefit workers who wish to return to their job and salary by creating light-duty roles that accommodate their injury. But on the other hand, injured workers who need to spend time at home recovering may be required to return to their job with little say in the matter.

As one spokesperson for the BWC recently stated, this plan is especially beneficial for companies looking to save money. Work accident law should first and foremost be focused on protecting the workers. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case.

If you feel you’ve been forced to return to work with an injury, immediately seek legal counsel to protect your right to proper recovery.
