College Hill Teen Killed in Pedestrian Accident

A College Hill resident was killed at an intersection earlier this month after being stuck by a vehicle. The accident took place on Argus and West North Bend roads. First responders attempted to save the young man’s life by performing CPR, but to no avail.

An investigation is ongoing by the Cincinnati Police Department, but no charges have been filed and law enforcement officials are still unsure who had the right of way at the time of the accident. The man was trapped under a vehicle driven by an adult male driver.

There are a number of contributing factors that lead to these types of pedestrian accidents. The most common include the following:

  • Inclement weather
  • Lack of light
  • Distracted driving
  • Speeding
  • Driving while intoxicated or ability impaired
  • Ignoring pedestrian warning signs like school zones or crosswalks
  • Attempting to pass a stopped school bus

When these factors are involved, the likelihood that a pedestrian accident will occur is increased. Small children also are more likely to be the victim of a careless driver because they are not as cognizant of the dangers of cars on the road.

From a legal perspective, pedestrians mostly have the right of way. If you are on foot, you have the right to safely use sidewalks and crosswalks. That said, some accidents that involve pedestrians are caused by inattentiveness, such as not looking both ways when crossing in the middle of the street or jaywalking.

If you’ve been involved in a pedestrian accident in the Cincinnati area and you believe a driver or another party was at fault, you may need to seek compensation. Consult a dedicated Ohio personal injury lawyer with Clements, Taylor, Butkovich & Cohen LPA, Co. today.
