Kasich Vetoes Consumer Injury Protection

Last week Governor Kasich used his line-item veto powers to remove portions of the budget bill which would have forced health insurance companies to pay part of an injured parties’ attorneys’ fees when they recover medical costs as the result of the injured workers lawsuit, and permit only the injured party to pursue litigation for his/her injuries. Kasich gave in to the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, and insurance companies’ demands to remove the provisions. Other provisions giving insurers a pro-rata share in the injured parties settlement or judgement, remained in the bill which was signed into law. For more information go to
