Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Pistachios

At least 11 people across 9 states have experienced food poisoning, with two individuals being hospitalized as a result. Ongoing investigations by the CDC and public health officials have pointed to the possible source of the outbreak being the Wonderful Pistachios company located in California.

Laboratory tests were able to confirm these suspicions when the Salmonella Montevideo strain was isolated in pistachio samples obtained from Paramount Farms, a supplier of Wonderful Pistachios. This isn’t Paramount Farms’ first offense, as records indicate they were tied to Salmonella outbreaks back in 2004.

On March 17, 2016, a Salmonella lawsuit was filed against Wonderful Pistachios on behalf of a Minnesota man who was sickened in the outbreak.

Unfortunately, this isn’t just a recent problem. With 89 recalls since 2001, salmonella outbreaks in nuts are an ongoing issue.
