New Ohio Law Affects Those Convicted of Drunk Driving

Annie’s law was passed by Ohio lawmakers back in May. The law is named after Annie Rooney who was killed by a drunk driver on July 4th, 2013.

The driver in question was previously arrested three times for driving while intoxicated. At the time of the accident, his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

Annie’s law will allow judges to force convicted drunk drivers to utilize an in-car breathalyzer. This new law still needs to pass through the Senate and Gov. John Kasich, but if so, a reduction in DUI accidents would be a plausible outcome.

In Ohio, alcohol-related crashes resulted in 3,637 deaths between the years 2003 to 2012.
