Ohio House Lawmakers Target Caps In Tort Actions Resulting From Violent Crimes 

Several years ago Ohio state lawmakers passed a tort reform bill limiting Plaintiffs’ ability to recover damages awarded by juries. Recently these laws prevented a sexual abuse victim from recovering the full amount of damages awarded by a jury.  This got the attention of some Ohio lawmakers who have introduced a bill to remedy this inequity. Why someone injured by a violent crime is more entitled to damages than someone injured by negligence, aside from the punitive aspect, is a question that comes to mind.
