A survey released this month by AARP indicates women voters over the age of 50 show concerns about the direction our Social Security is heading. The majority of the voters have expressed the need for changes in the program. The surveys use of women voters stems from the fact that more SS recipients are women than men. This may be due to the fact that in the US, women have a longer average lifespan.
With 64% of the retired relying on Social Security as the bulk of their income, these worries are justified. Current projections indicate that the fund will deplete by 2034.
While this news sounds alarming, there is plenty of time to make changes to the system and protect our retirements.
