Back on September 2nd, Samsung issued a product recall for one of their newest cell phone offerings: The Note 7. According to the safety recall, a manufacturing error caused a defect which made the phones potentially dangerous to use. The defect resulted in the battery overheating which in turn led to the smartphones exploding.
Lawsuits have already been filed, including a man who suffered severe burns after the phone exploded in his pocket. In another lawsuit, a person suffered second and third-degree burns after a different model, the Galaxy S7 Edge, caught on fire in his pocket.
It’s important to understand that recalls do not change a manufacturer’s responsibility to produce safe products for consumers. When you’re injured by a product, whether it’s a car, phone, or a simple toy, your injury falls under product liability law. It’s important to report unsafe products to both regulating authorities and the manufacturer in question.
If you were injured by a faulty product, a personal injury lawyer can help you determine if the manufacturer can be held liable.
