Volkswagen and GM are just two of the many recent car manufacturers who have announced recalls for a nearly 1 million combined vehicles. GM recently discovered that nearly 800,000 of its pick- up trucks are susceptible to sudden power steering failures, which can potentially cause drivers to lose control of the vehicle. Similarly, Volkswagen announced it is recalling nearly 280,000 vehicles after it was discovered that the fuel pumps on some models contain a flaw which can sometimes cause vehicles to stall while running, and can cause the fuel pump to continue running after the vehicle is shut off.
Although, both GM and Volkswagen have provided notification to owners of the affected vehicles, it seems as though recalls are becoming commonplace. According to National Safety Council, an estimated 53 million recalled vehicles with unresolved recall issues are driving on America’s roads today. Evidence suggests that drivers of older vehicles are less likely to be up to date on recall information than drivers of newer vehicles. Regardless of the age of your vehicle, it is important to pay attention to recall notices as some of the issues to be addressed can be serious and are potentially dangerous to the driver and everyone else on the road.
